Our Oklahoma Conference of United Women in Faith has a great legacy of mission work in our state since1891... after many generations and many changes through the years, our dedication to missions and our purpose remains unchanged.
Organized in Oklahoma prior to statehood beginning with our first unit president (Mrs. M.L. Nix) from St Luke's Methodist Church in Oklahoma City in1891. These mission minded women also founded several other organizations in OKC including Neighborhood Services Organization and the Food Bank.
Over the years, our members across the state were added and they continue to exist with several districts to support local and global missions for women, children, and youth. Their impact makes a big difference for so many organizations serving those in need including the homeless, indigenous and incarcerated women on a local, national, and global level.
Currently, there are over 90 National Mission Institutions operating across our nation that are partially funded with our mission money as well as many international schools and projects funded through grants for women and children around the world.
Since March 23, 1869, this international connection of women reflects their big hearts and their dedication to making a difference. Founded by 8 women in Boston who raised funds to send 2 doctors to India to provide medical care for women and girls at a time when women and girls had no medical care.
Currently based in New York City, it is the largest global Christian women’s organization with nearly half a million members. They have founded many colleges and including the largest university for women (Ewha Womans University in Seoul, South Korea), missionary societies with hundreds of doctors and nurses, shelters, hospitals, adoption centers, retirement centers, colleges, and mission institutions.
As United Women in Faith, the 154-year legacy continues as they stand ready to forge new paths advocating for justice and creating a brighter future for women, children and youth around the world. Learn more about our legacy since 1869 at:
