FOOD DESERTS: The USDA identifies several census tracts in Oklahoma as food deserts. Rural food deserts are more frequent in southeastern Oklahoma, while urban food deserts compromise most of northern Tulsa and southern and eastern Oklahoma City. Overall, food desert conditions can be found in 32 of Oklahoma’s 77 counties.
Our Conference, Districts, & Units across the state support meals on wheels, local community markets and food banks to address the need for good food in Oklahoma. They volunteer time to assist in food prep or delivery or donate substantially to those organizations who are helping to meet the needs in our state.

Our Oklahoma Conference continues to be dedicated and makes it a high priority and focus to volunteer and provide donations to many organizations who support the homeless population with food, hygiene kits/bags, clothing and shelter.
MISSING AND MURDERED INDIGENOUS WOMEN:
Photos below include Reverend Judy Deere (Native American) sharing her perspective on the national crisis of
"Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women" for St Luke's Unit in OKC in Sept 2023. She also addressed the laws that have been passed in Oklahoma, but unfortunately, no funding has been designated for enforcement. A video from Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) (nativehope.org) reflects the issue.
Rev Deere is scheduled to speak on this issue of MMIW again in May 2024 at McFarlin UMC in Norman, OK. Her presentation is very educational and everyone is encouraged to attend to learn more.
Reverend Judy Deere can be reached at the Cookson Hills Mission Center or revdeere@gmail.com 918-230-3181
